Better Than Patatas Bravas

These are absolutely my favorite potatoes. If you've ever been to Spain then you absolutely know what patatas bravas are. If not, they're baked potatoes with a "spicy sauce". If my very honest opinion, the potatoes are okay and the sauce is definitely not spicy, it's good, but not spicy. So here is my version of those, but with more flavor and with sauce that is actually spicy.

These are super crispy baked and seasoned potatoes, crispy being the trick.



sea salt

cracked pepper

olive oil



dijon mustard


Sriracha or Valentina hot sauce

How to make them:

  1. After you thoroughly clean the potatoes, put them in a large bowl and give them an ice bath. Literally let them in ice, for about 30 minutes. This is what makes them crispy when baked.

  2. While the potatoes are soaking, combine 1 tablespoon of dijon mustard, 1 teaspoon of honey, 1 teaspoon of olive oil and 2 tablespoons of hot sauce. If this isn't enough for how many potatoes you are making, then try doubling it.

  3. Cut up the potatoes to the desired shape and size. I like to leave them in somewhat larger pieces, or quarters even, and smash them slightly with a fork.

  4. Drizzle a generous amount of olive oil on top of them and add the salt, pepper and herbs. If you slightly mashed the potatoes then it's not necessary to mix them, just apply the ingredients evenly. If you chopped them smaller, then mix everything up.

  5. Bake for about 30 minutes.

  6. When they are finished, drizzle the sauce over the top and enjoy!
