Quarantine Immunity, Health & Wellness

Immunity, health and wellness are all very important to having a healthy, strong and balanced life, but now more than ever. With the extra added chaos and stress due to our current state of the world, our own individual health should be the most important thing. With all of the quarantines, isolations and lockdowns all around the world, our own health is one of the few things that we are fully in control of.

Between activities, daily habits and supplements, here are some ways to stay or become healthier, most of which I try to do everyday. These things are all easy for anyone, including the whole family and even those like me with infants who have time for almost nothing else. And if you have never really focused on your wellness or at boosting your immune system, well there's no better time than now to start! Most of these things are little boosters that will give your body that extra added layer of defense and strength.

Food: This is the single most important part of maintaining and strengthening your immunity, health and wellness. It is incredibly important to make sure that you are supplying your body with balanced nutrients in order for your body to function like the machine that it is. Fresh organic foods, primarily vegetables, should make up the majority of your diet. Nature is incredibly intuitive at proving your body with exactly what it needs. Try to eliminate processed foods as much as possible! Eating fresh clean foods will help you feel better both mentally and physically. While under quarantine, try to eat less grains since we are all moving a bit less. The less chemicals that are in your body, the stronger it will become.

My favorite immune boosting foods:

  • tumeric (here are some ideas for what to cook with tumeric)

  • spinach

  • broccoli (here's an easy broccoli salad recipe for the family)

  • garlic

  • pumpkin seeds (caesar dressing recipe which has plenty of these)

  • lemon (I put it on everything)

  • ginger (lemon, ginger & apple cider vinegar with hot water is great to start the morning)

Exercise: Move your body and sweat! This is incredibly important for bringing in oxygen and eliminating toxins in your body. Exercise is a great detox and again, is helpful to your body and mind. There are tons of free workout apps and youtube videos that are fast and easy to do. If you're not up for exercising one day, make sure that you at least stretch your body out to move a little.

Relax: Eliminate stress as much as humanly possible, especially right now. I get that things are tough; if you ready my previous quarantine post then you can see that things are incredibly tough here, but we have to make the best of it! Take a minimum of 10 minutes for yourself to quiet your mind. Meditate, take an epsom salt detox bath, a normal bath, listen to music alone, or whatever it is that you do for you. Again, mind and body are connected so both need to be balanced in order for the other to be.

Enjoy: Something, anything... find something to smile at, to laugh at or with, to appreciate. This is probably the hardest for most people with our current way of life. But please, remind yourself that some things are good or beautiful or funny. I have a 5 month old who constantly helps me out with this one. So find your Audrey, even if it's a single flower.

Supplements & Vitamins

Here are some of the supplements that I like to use or have used before to help give me an extra immunity boost. These products are just some examples, so if you don't have or can't find these specific ones, try something similar! There's a ton more such as teas, oils, herbs and so on, but if you have more specific questions please ask. I can try and add a few more later.

Everything can be found on Amazon US or Spain; the links are attached. If you are in the United States: Trader Joe's will have most things at a reasonable price and Whole Foods will have everything but at a not-so-affordable price. If you're in Spain, your local Herbolario will have all of these and Hipercor might have some.

Vitamin C: I love Emercen-c packets because they are fast and easy. They have a specific one which is immune focused. I've been taking these for years especially when I'm not feeling 100% or before/after drinking more than one drink. Apparently they are hard to find now so normal Vitamin C tablets or pills should work just fine!

There are a variety of options on Amazon US. I used to get them from Trader Joe's as well. If you are in Spain, here's what I used because on Amazon they are 75euros...

Immune support: Since moving to Spain, I've been taking Immunol, a natural immune support vitamins which contain natural elements such as shitake and thyme and I love them. I'm certain that Whole Foods will have something similar, so check that out. Otherwise, for the US, Vive organic is an organic immune boost.

Probiotics: Absolutely necessary. There's a great variety in these, from pills to tablets to yogurt-like drinks. Probiotics help with digestions, which is essential to boosting and strengthening your immune system. When I was in the United States, I loved Dr. Ohhira's probiotics. If you have a baby, then Zarbee's is wonderful. If you're in Spain or Europe, then Garden of Life has a nice one that I have used.

Epsom Salts: I use these to take a nice relaxing detox bath. They completely detox your skin and body which then detoxes the mind. Any dead skin will come right off, so be aware of that. It's incredibly soothing and relaxing. There's a variety available that are great on Amazon US. Or if you're in Spain, this is what I have been using.

A few final notes:

1. This has been my lifestyle for a very long time and I am rarely sick. It's not magic and it's not 'hippie-dippie' stuff, it's science, and it works. Give it some time though!

2. Please do not overdo it because you say something in the media! Don't think, "I just took 6 million vitamin C tables so I'm immune to the virus!" That is idiotic and not true. Hoarding is not good and abusing anything is not good.

3. If you are an already healthy person and have a strong immune system, congratulations but you are also not immune to the virus. I am healthy, however it is not myself that I would be concerned about, it would be other people and about spreading it. Still stay tf home!
